**Los Angeles, CA** – Producer Mustard has revealed that Kendrick Lamar embraced his inner Goku while recording the hit song “Hey Now” for his album *GNX*. Speaking ahead of the 2025 Grammy Awards, Mustard recounted Lamar’s description of his creative process: “When I heard the beat, I just felt like Goku or something.” The track, which features Dody6 and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, showcases a powerful, energetic performance from Lamar.

Mustard also shared that several other artists, including Ty Dolla $ign, YG, and Quavo, initially passed on the beat, which was conceived as a West Coast take on Clipse’s “Grindin'”. He explained that the beat’s unusual sounds and sparse arrangement were intentional, designed to create a specific atmosphere. Despite initial hesitation from some artists, the song ultimately found its perfect match in Lamar’s unique interpretation.

Lamar is nominated for seven Grammys this year, while Mustard is up for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.
