**Bengaluru, January 25, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka is grappling with internal strife, with high-level meetings taking place in Delhi to address the escalating tensions. State president B.Y. Vijayendra travelled to the national capital on Friday to brief party leaders on the situation, which has been fueled by open conflict between former ministers B. Sriramulu and G. Janardhana Reddy.
Speculation is rife that Mr. Sriramulu, a prominent Scheduled Tribes leader, may defect to the ruling Congress party. In an attempt to quell the unrest, BJP national president J.P. Nadda contacted Mr. Sriramulu, while Union Minister Pralhad Joshi is also mediating between the warring factions. The party is reportedly keen to retain Mr. Sriramulu’s support.
The current crisis has been exacerbated by a recent announcement by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of an upcoming election for the state BJP president’s post, further igniting the conflict between Mr. Vijayendra and a rebel group led by Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal. Mr. Vijayendra is actively involved in damage control efforts.
