SYRACUSE, N.Y. (January 24, 2025) – The NC State Wolfpack women’s basketball team secured a thrilling 74-66 victory over the Syracuse Orange Wednesday night, despite trailing for the majority of the game. The Pack’s comeback was fueled by a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring Syracuse 20-9 and closing the game on an 11-0 run.

Zoe Brooks led NC State with 19 points, while Madison Hayes contributed a near double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Wolfpack capitalized on Syracuse’s turnovers, scoring 22 points off 12 turnovers and adding another 24 points on fast breaks. The win improves NC State’s record to 15-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play, extending their winning streak against Syracuse to nine games and their overall winning streak to 11 of their last 12.

The game was a tight contest throughout. Syracuse held a significant lead for much of the first three quarters, reaching a 11-point advantage in the second. However, NC State consistently chipped away at the deficit, fueled by strong performances from Hayes and Brooks, and key contributions from Lorena Awou off the bench. A crucial 8-0 run in the third quarter brought the Pack within striking distance, and a final surge in the fourth sealed the victory.

Coach Wes Moore praised the team’s resilience, highlighting the performances of Brooks, Hayes, and Awou. He noted the struggles of some key players, but emphasized the team’s ability to overcome adversity and find a way to win. Moore specifically lauded Brooks’ improved playmaking, noting her impressive assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Wolfpack will return home to Raleigh to face Virginia Tech on Sunday, January 26th at 6 p.m. on ACC Network.
