**Prayagraj, India** – Well-known Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni has surprised the nation by renouncing her film career and taking sanyas (religious renunciation) in Kumbh Nagar. The ceremony took place on the Sangam ghats, with the investiture conducted by Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi of the Kinnar Akhada (the transgender akhada) in the evening.
Following the ceremony, Kulkarni’s name has been changed to Shriyamai Mamtanand Giri. The investiture was performed under the Dharma Dhwaja (religious flag) amidst chants of “Har Har Mahadev.” Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi led the puja and formally changed her name.
