**Chennai, January 25, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital (TNGMSSH) in Omandurar Estate has significantly upgraded its diagnostic capabilities with the installation of a new ₹6.60 crore MRI scanner. Health Minister Ma. Subramanian inaugurated the machine on Friday, highlighting its advanced features compared to the hospital’s 11-year-old scanner.

The new equipment, procured through the Tamil Nadu Medical Service Corporation, incorporates artificial intelligence to reduce scan times, particularly for brain imaging, minimizing patient wait times. Its advanced software will benefit patients across various specialties, including neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, oncology, and vascular surgery. The machine also features adjustable settings for safer imaging of infants and children and improved image quality even in the presence of metallic implants.

Minister Subramanian further announced that the hospital is slated to receive an additional ₹57.55 crore worth of equipment, as per budget allocations. The TNGMSSH currently serves a large patient population, with 1,800-2,000 outpatients and 450-500 inpatients daily, performing approximately 25 major surgeries per day. Director of Medical Education J. Sangumani and director of TNGMSSH R. Mani were also present at the inauguration.
