Fri Jan 24 03:17:43 UTC 2025: ## Rohit Sharma’s Ranji Trophy Return Ends in Disappointment
**Mumbai, January 23, 2024** – India captain Rohit Sharma’s highly anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy ended in frustration today, as he was dismissed for a paltry 3 runs against Jammu & Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai.
Sharma, playing for Mumbai, failed to impress in his comeback to India’s premier domestic first-class competition. He looked uncomfortable at the crease, repeatedly missing deliveries and chasing wide balls before eventually being caught inside the circle off a leading edge, bowled by Umar Nazir Mir.
His early dismissal followed the equally disappointing exit of opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 runs), leaving Mumbai reeling at 12/2 after just 5.5 overs. The defending champions had opted to bat first after winning the toss.
Sharma’s participation in the Ranji Trophy is mandated by new BCCI directives requiring players to participate in domestic cricket when not on national duty. The Indian captain has struggled in recent Test matches, scoring just 619 runs at an average of 24.76 in his last 14 matches. His poor form led to him even dropping himself from the playing XI for the fifth Test against Australia. He will be hoping to regain form before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which begins February 19th.
