Fri Jan 24 16:10:39 UTC 2025: ## Rohit Sharma’s Poor Form Raises Concerns Ahead of Upcoming Matches

**Mumbai, India (January 24, 2025)** – Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma’s recent performance in domestic cricket has fueled growing concerns about his dwindling form. Returning to the Ranji Trophy after nearly a decade, Sharma disappointed fans in Mumbai’s match against Jammu and Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy. He was dismissed for a paltry 3 runs in the first innings, bowled by Umar Nazir Meer. This underwhelming performance, lasting only 19 balls, left spectators deeply disappointed.

Sharma’s batting average this season has plummeted to a record low. With an average of just 10.43 across 16 innings in the 2024/25 first-class season, it marks the lowest average for an Indian top-six batsman since 2006 – the lowest in 19 years. His struggles extend to the international stage, with a dismal 10.93 average and a mere 164 runs in 15 innings during the 2024-25 Test season. His highest score was a paltry 52 against Bangladesh. His poor form was particularly evident in the recent series against Australia, where he managed only 31 runs in five innings.

Under Sharma’s captaincy, the Indian team has faced significant challenges. For the first time in 12 years, India suffered a 0-3 defeat at home in a Test series against New Zealand. Although Sharma returned to the team for the 2024 tour of Australia, India’s performance remained sluggish.

Even with his participation in the Ranji Trophy, as announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association, Mumbai’s first innings was marred by early wickets. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also fell cheaply for 4 runs. The early dismissals of both Sharma and Jaiswal placed Mumbai in a precarious position.

Sharma’s poor performance has caused significant disappointment among fans who hoped to see him regain form in the Ranji Trophy. Whether he can rediscover his batting prowess and meet expectations in upcoming matches remains a major question.
