Fri Jan 24 03:47:09 IST 2025: ## 13 Dead, 10 Injured in Horrific Train Accident in Maharashtra

**Jalgaon, Maharashtra:** The death toll from a tragic train accident in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district has risen to 13, police confirmed Thursday. The incident occurred Wednesday evening when passengers aboard the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express panicked, believing there was a fire, and jumped onto the tracks. They were then struck by the oncoming Bengaluru-Delhi Karnataka Express on an adjacent track.

Eight of the deceased have been identified, including four from Nepal. Ten of the fifteen injured remain hospitalized, while others with minor injuries were discharged. The Pushpak Express, delayed by the incident, finally reached its destination in Mumbai early Thursday morning.

While initial reports suggested a fire sparked the panic, Railway Board officials denied this, stating passengers mistakenly believed smoke indicated a fire. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) to the families of each victim, while the Railway Board added an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1.5 lakh (approximately $1,800 USD). Further compensation is available for those with grievous or simple injuries. The accident took place between Maheji and Pardhade stations near Pachora town. Senior railway officials visited the accident site and hospitals to oversee the response.
