**Latur, Maharashtra, January 24, 2025** – Farmers in Latur district, Maharashtra, are planning a protest on Friday against the proposed 802-km Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway. The protest, organized by the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, opposes the acquisition of 27,000 acres of land, including fertile farmland, for the highway project.
Anil Byale, a leader of the Sanghatana, stated that the expressway, which will traverse 12 districts, is primarily benefiting contractors and will severely impact farmers. He criticized the government’s decision to proceed despite widespread opposition. In Latur alone, 481 acres of land across multiple villages are slated for acquisition. Similar protests are expected in other affected districts.
