Thu Jan 23 21:41:27 UTC 2025: ## India Completes Extensive Hydrographic Survey for Mauritius

**Port Louis, Mauritius –** The Indian Navy’s INS Sarvekshak has concluded a comprehensive hydrographic survey of Mauritius, covering over 25,000 square nautical miles. The survey’s data, including new nautical charts and equipment, were formally handed over to Mauritian President Dharambeer Gokhool on Thursday by India’s High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava.

This significant undertaking, the Indian Navy stated, will aid Mauritius in developing its maritime infrastructure, resource management, and coastal development planning. The project underscores the strong India-Mauritius partnership in maritime development and regional cooperation.

The survey’s completion follows a deck reception held aboard INS Sarvekshak on January 22nd, attended by President Gokhool. Captain Tribhuvan Singh, Commanding Officer of INS Sarvekshak, also briefed Mauritian Housing and Lands Minister Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohamed on the survey operations.

This latest collaboration builds upon existing extensive defence cooperation between India and Mauritius. This includes the presence of a Mauritian liaison officer at India’s Information Fusion Centre for the Indian Ocean Region and joint coastal radar surveillance. Furthermore, the Mauritius Police Force utilizes Indian-made aircraft. The hydrographic survey is part of India’s broader SAGAR initiative, aimed at capacity building and knowledge sharing with littoral states in the Indian Ocean region. Over the past five years, Indian Navy survey ships have conducted joint operations covering 89,000 sq. km., resulting in the production of 96 new charts.
