**Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand:** Three earthquakes struck Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand early Friday morning, causing fear among residents but no reported injuries or damage. The tremors, occurring within a 40-minute span, were recorded by the National Center of Seismology.
The first quake, measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale, hit at 7:42 AM. Two subsequent tremors, registering 3.5 on the Richter scale, followed at 8:19 AM. The epicenter was located near Bhatwari block, approximately 5 kilometers below the surface, according to officials. The intensity of the shallow quakes resulted in strong shaking felt across the district.
Following the tremors, residents spent considerable time outdoors, fearing further seismic activity. District Magistrate Dr. Mehrban Singh Bisht has placed all officials on high alert, instructing them to gather information from all tehsils. The disaster control room remains fully operational. Authorities have confirmed that, as of now, no casualties or significant damage have been reported. However, a sense of apprehension persists among the populace. Police and officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid spreading rumors.
Uttarkashi is situated in a seismically active zone (IV and V), making it susceptible to earthquakes. The district administration has issued an alert, advising precautionary measures.
