Fri Jan 24 11:14:57 IST 2025: ## Uttarkashi Hit by Two Earthquakes in One Morning

**Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand –** Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand experienced two strong earthquakes this morning, causing widespread panic among residents. The first tremor struck at approximately 7:44 AM, followed by a second, stronger quake at 8:19 AM. People rushed out of their homes in fear following both incidents.

While the intensity and epicenter of the first earthquake are yet to be officially confirmed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the second earthquake measured 3.5 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 5 kilometers below the surface in the forests near Bhatwari tehsil headquarters.

Authorities have not yet reported any casualties or significant damage. However, the district administration is assessing the situation and has urged residents to remain vigilant and stay in safe locations. District Magistrate Dr. Mehrban Singh Bisht has instructed officials to gather information from all tehsils in the district.

This is the second seismic event to hit the region recently. A previous earthquake, measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale, struck Mori in Uttarkashi on September 6th, 2024. The epicenter of that quake was located near the Singatur forest area on the Uttarkashi-Himachal border.
