**Chennai, January 24, 2025** – Major opposition parties in Tamil Nadu, including the Congress, CPI(M), and VCK, announced a boycott of the Republic Day ‘At Home’ reception hosted by Governor R.N. Ravi. The parties cited Governor Ravi’s actions against the interests of the state and its elected government as the reason for their protest.
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, K. Selvaperunthagai, criticized the Governor for hindering the selection of Vice-Chancellors for state universities and for delaying assent to bills passed by the Legislative Assembly. CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam accused the Governor of disrespecting the Constitution and the principles of cooperative federalism. The VCK echoed these sentiments, stating that the Governor’s actions were undermining state autonomy. All three parties will not attend the reception as a show of protest.
