Fri Jan 24 08:19:23 IST 2025: ## NTR District Encourages Rooftop Solar Adoption with PM Surya Ghar Scheme

**Vijayawada, January 24, 2025** – NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha is urging residents to embrace rooftop solar energy through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijili Yojana scheme. Speaking at an awareness rally on Thursday, Mr. Lakshmisha highlighted the scheme’s potential to reduce electricity bills and contribute to a renewable energy future.

The scheme offers substantial subsidies; a 3 kW solar panel, typically costing ₹2 lakh, receives a ₹78,000 subsidy. The Collector emphasized the long-term benefits, stating that a system can provide power for 20 years, with the potential to generate surplus electricity that can be sold back to DISCOMs, creating additional income. He cited an example of a 300 kW system generating up to 300 units per month.

While the district aims for 2 lakh installations, 60,000 registrations have already been completed, with ₹33 lakh disbursed to beneficiaries in the last two months. Mr. Lakshmisha called for increased participation to make NTR District a leader in renewable energy. The rally was jointly organized by the Electricity and DRDA departments.
