Fri Jan 24 15:50:50 IST 2025: ## Assam Rattled by 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake; No Casualties Reported

**GUWAHATI, INDIA –** A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Myanmar early Friday morning, sending tremors through parts of Assam and other northeastern Indian states. The quake, which hit at a depth of 106 km, caused widespread panic but thankfully resulted in no immediate reports of damage or casualties, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The NCS located the epicenter in Myanmar. While the tremors were felt across the region, prompting concern among residents, officials confirmed there were no reports of injuries or property damage.

This latest seismic event follows a series of smaller earthquakes in the region earlier this week. Manipur experienced two earthquakes on Wednesday night, measuring 4.3 and 3.3 on the Richter scale, respectively. No damage or casualties were reported from those incidents either. Several other tremors, ranging in magnitude from 3.1 to 4.1, have also been reported in Manipur and Meghalaya this month. While the recent activity has raised concerns, officials continue to monitor the situation.
