**Patna, Bihar** – The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) released the results for its 70th preliminary examination (PT) on [Date of Release], amidst ongoing protests demanding a re-examination. A total of 21,581 candidates have cleared the exam, out of over 328,000 who appeared. The results can be viewed on the commission’s newly updated website: https://bpsc.bihar.gov.in.
The 70th BPSC exam, held on December 13, 2024, and January 4, 2025, aimed to fill 1,964 vacancies. The exam, conducted across 911 centers statewide and 22 centers in Patna, faced controversy following allegations of irregularities at a Patna examination center (Bapu Examination Center) on December 13th. Following these allegations, the exam at that center was cancelled.
Despite the controversy, the BPSC released the results within the stipulated 45-day timeframe. However, the results come as candidates continue their 41-day-long protest in Patna’s Gardanibagh, demanding a re-examination of the entire exam, not just the affected center. They allege widespread irregularities across all examination centers.
A petition filed by Jan Suraj, a party led by Prashant Kishor, seeking a re-examination, is pending before the Patna High Court. The court heard the case on January 16th but refused to put a stay on the results. A further hearing is scheduled for January 31st, with the BPSC required to submit an affidavit before January 30th.
The protests have intensified, with reports of extreme actions, including a tutor, Guru Rahman, writing a letter to authorities in his own blood demanding re-examination. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also visited the protesting candidates on January 18th, expressing solidarity.
The BPSC 70th PT exam consisted of 150 questions, with a two-hour time limit. Successful candidates will proceed to the mains examination, which will involve three subjects: General Hindi (compulsory, 100 marks, 30% pass required, not counted in merit), General Studies (two papers of 300 marks each), and an optional subject (300 marks). This will be followed by an interview (120 marks). The final merit list will be based on a total of 1020 marks (900 from the mains and 120 from the interview).
The controversy surrounding the exam and the ongoing protests cast a shadow on the released results and the future of the recruitment process. The outcome of the High Court case on January 31st will play a crucial role in determining the next steps.
