Fri Jan 24 16:10:25 UTC 2025: ## Bollywood Actress Mamta Kulkarni Becomes Mahamandaleshwar at Kumbh Mela

**Prayagraj, India** – Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni has embraced a new chapter, becoming a Mahamandaleshwar (a high-ranking spiritual leader) in the Kinnar Akhara (the transgender akhara) at the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. On Friday, she performed the ritual of Pind Daan at the Sangam confluence and adopted the name Yamai Mamta Nand Giri.

Kulkarni, 53, arrived at the Kinnar Akhara earlier Friday morning, seeking blessings from Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshminarayan Tripathi. Following an hour-long discussion, the Akhara officially conferred the Mahamandaleshwar title upon her. The process involved a meeting with the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad president, Ravindra Puri, and other officials.

Clad in saffron robes, Rudraksha beads, and carrying a saffron bag, Kulkarni described the event as a “memorable moment,” expressing gratitude for the blessings received. Her appearance drew a large crowd eager for selfies and photos.

In an exclusive interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Kulkarni revealed that her spiritual journey began in 2000 under the guidance of Guru Shri Chaitanya Gagan Giri Gurunath. She emphasized that this transition wasn’t sudden, but the culmination of 23 years of tapasya (spiritual practice). She stated that she has no plans to return to Bollywood, having left the industry long ago and focusing solely on her spiritual path.

Kulkarni’s past includes controversies surrounding a topless photoshoot for Stardust magazine in 1993, alleged underworld connections, and accusations of sexual harassment against director Rajkumar Santoshi. She addressed past rumors of marriage to Dubai-based underworld drug trafficker Vicky Goswami, stating that while she loved him, her primary devotion now lies with God.

The Kinnar Akhara, founded in 2015 by activist Lakshminarayan Tripathi, aims to integrate the transgender community into mainstream society. Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avadhesanand Giri of the Juna Akhara welcomed Kulkarni’s decision, stating that everyone has the right to renounce worldly attachments for a life of spiritual service. Kulkarni plans to remain at the Kumbh Mela until February 1st-2nd for further spiritual practices.
