**Bengaluru, India** – The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has achieved a significant milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 by Subject. For the first time, an Indian institution has cracked the top 100 in Computer Science, with IISc securing the 99th position with a score of 60.5. This represents a substantial improvement from its ranking in the 101-125 band in 2024.

The rankings, which cover eleven subjects, saw US universities dominate, placing first in nine subjects. The UK led in the remaining two. In the Engineering subject rankings, Harvard University retained its top spot, followed by Stanford, MIT, and Oxford. Other top performers included the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Cambridge, California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, National University of Singapore, and ETH Zurich.

While IISc’s achievement marks a breakthrough for India, other Indian institutions also featured in the Engineering rankings. Anna University placed in the 251-300 range, Lovely Professional University in the 301-400 range, and Jamia Millia Islamia and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences both in the 401-500 range. The results highlight the growing presence of Indian institutions in the global higher education landscape.
