**MUMBAI, INDIA –** Food delivery giant Swiggy and Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant have joined forces to co-own Mumbai Pickle Power, a franchise in the upcoming World Pickleball League (WPBL). The WPBL, India’s first official global franchise-based pickleball league, is set to launch its inaugural season from January 24th to February 2nd, 2025, at the Cricket Club of India (Brabourne Stadium) in Mumbai.
This partnership aims to significantly boost the sport’s popularity in India. Pant, known for his energetic playing style, brings a large fan base to the team, while Swiggy provides its platform and marketing expertise. Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, highlighted pickleball’s family-friendly nature and expressed excitement about the collaboration. The six-team league, co-founded by former Indian tennis players Gaurav Natekar and Arati Ponnappa Natekar, will see Mumbai Pickle Power face off against Pune United in the opening match.
