**Salem, Tamil Nadu –** A malfunctioning spillway shutter at the Anaimaduvu dam in Vazhapadi taluk, Salem district, caused the release of 1,600 cusecs of water into the Vasishta River on Wednesday, January 22nd, sparking brief panic among nearby residents.
According to a statement released by K. Appusamy, Executive Engineer of the Sarabanga Division, Salem, a central shutter at the dam unexpectedly opened. Authorities immediately alerted residents and farmers in the Kurichi and Belur areas to avoid the river. The issue was quickly resolved, the water flow stopped, and no damage to property or farmland was reported.
While the incident caused temporary concern, officials from the Water Resources Department and Revenue Department monitored the situation closely and confirmed that all precautionary measures were in place. The released water continued to flow through the river, posing no further threat.
