Thu Jan 23 00:54:30 IST 2025: ## Kozhikode Town Hall Set to Reopen After Renovations
**Kozhikode, Kerala, January 23, 2025** – The Kozhikode Town Hall, a significant cultural venue, is poised to reopen by the end of January after a four-month renovation. The closure, initiated on September 17, 2024, due to the building’s deteriorating condition, sparked protests from the cultural community concerned about the lack of alternative spaces for public gatherings. The Tagore Centenary Hall, the city’s other major venue, was also undergoing renovations at the time.
The public outcry spurred faster completion of the Town Hall’s refurbishment, which initially was expected to take three months. The ₹30 lakh renovation included replacing worn-out curtains and seating, electrical upgrades, repainting, and improvements to stage visibility. New chairs have been installed, slightly elevated to improve sightlines for audience members in the back rows.
Public Works Standing Committee Chairman P.C. Rajan stated that only minor electrical fittings remain to be completed. The Corporation also plans to digitize the portraits of socio-cultural leaders displayed on the Town Hall walls. The reopening of the Town Hall is expected to be a welcome relief for the city’s cultural organizations.
