CUTTACK, Odisha – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 128th birth anniversary, celebrated as Parakram Diwas. Addressing a gathering in Cuttack, Netaji’s birthplace, Modi urged Indian youth to emulate Bose’s unwavering dedication and step outside their comfort zones to realize the vision of a developed India (“Viksit Bharat”).
Modi drew parallels between Netaji’s life – choosing national service over a comfortable existence despite his privileged background – and the current national goal. He emphasized the importance of national unity, echoing Netaji’s efforts in forming the Azad Hind Fauj, as crucial for achieving “Viksit Bharat.” He cautioned against forces aiming to divide the nation.
The Prime Minister highlighted several government initiatives honoring Netaji’s legacy, including a museum at the Red Fort, the Subhas Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar, and a newly inaugurated statue near India Gate. He also showcased India’s recent progress, citing the alleviation of poverty for 250 million citizens and the nation’s growing global influence, predicting India’s rise to the world’s third-largest economy.
The celebrations in Cuttack included a significant exhibition on Netaji’s life. Earlier in the day, PM Modi paid homage at Parliament’s Central Hall and interacted with students, concluding with the rousing cry of “Jai Hind!” Modi concluded his address by calling for continued dedication to the goal of “Viksit Bharat” as the true tribute to Netaji.
