**Bangkok, Thailand** – Thailand has become the first Southeast Asian nation and only the third in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, marking a significant victory for LGBTQ+ rights in the region. Thailand joins Taiwan and Nepal as the only Asian countries to legalize same-sex marriage, following decades of campaigning by LGBTQ+ activists. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra recently underscored the importance of gender identity recognition, stating, “Whether male, female or non-binary, people should have the right to identify as they wish.”
