**Mumbai, India** – Mumbai Police have confirmed the nationality of the man accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan earlier this month. Sariful Islam, 30, a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered India last year, has been identified as the attacker. Police have recovered two Bangladeshi identity cards – a national identity card and a learner’s driver’s license – confirming his identity and place of origin (Barisal).

Islam, who used the alias Bijoy Das in India, was apprehended in Thane after a three-day manhunt involving over 20 police teams. He confessed to the crime, stating, “Yes, I did it,” according to police sources. He allegedly entered Khan’s Bandra West residence on January 16th with the intent to rob the family, demanding ₹1 crore (approximately $121,000 USD) from the nanny of Khan’s three-year-old son. Khan was stabbed six times when he intervened.

Islam entered India through Meghalaya seven months ago, residing in West Bengal before moving to Mumbai. He used a local resident’s Aadhaar card to obtain a SIM card. He initially worked in jobs that didn’t require identification documents.

Khan, who sustained severe injuries including spinal damage, was discharged from Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday. He is now under 24-hour police protection, supplemented by a private security firm. Islam will reappear in court on Friday. The investigation continues.
