**Mumbai, Maharashtra –** Thirteen people were killed and fifteen injured in a train accident near Jalgaon, Maharashtra, on Wednesday evening. According to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the tragedy resulted from a false alarm about a fire on the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express.
Pawar stated that a pantry tea-seller’s shout about a fire sparked panic among passengers. Two passengers from Uttar Pradesh relayed the unverified information, causing widespread confusion and fear. Several passengers jumped from the moving train to escape the perceived danger, only to be struck by the oncoming Karnataka Express on an adjacent track.
The impact was severe, resulting in fatalities and significant injuries. While ten of the deceased have been identified, the two passengers initially responsible for spreading the rumour are among the injured. Authorities quickly responded, and train service resumed after a period of disruption. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that the accident was a direct consequence of a false rumour.
