Thu Jan 23 05:41:18 IST 2025: ## Arshdeep Singh Overtakes Chahal as India’s Top T20I Wicket-Taker
**Kolkata, India** – Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh etched his name into the record books Wednesday, becoming India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal during the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Singh, who entered the match needing just one wicket to surpass Chahal’s 96, achieved the milestone by dismissing England openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett in the first and third overs respectively. Remarkably, he reached this achievement in only 61 T20I matches, compared to Chahal’s 80.
The victory also saw India opt for a pace attack featuring Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Arshdeep Singh, while veteran Mohammed Shami was left out of the playing XI, delaying his much-anticipated international comeback. England, meanwhile, left out several players including Brydon Carse, Jamie Smith, Saqib Mahmood and Rehan Ahmed.
Despite the milestone and team selection surprises, the match itself was anticipated to be a close contest, with both captains acknowledging the favorable playing conditions.
