Tue Jan 21 21:27:49 IST 2025: ## Bloomberg Veteran Credits Biden with Strong US Economy Inherited by Trump
**CHENNAI, INDIA (January 22, 2025)** – Matthew Winkler, co-founder and former editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News, asserted Tuesday that President Donald Trump inherited a robust US economy, largely due to the economic policies implemented by his predecessor, Joe Biden. Speaking at the Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) in Chennai, Winkler cited a Bloomberg report highlighting the contrast between Trump’s promises of a “Golden Age” and the strong economic indicators under Biden’s administration.
Winkler highlighted several key economic achievements during Biden’s presidency, including positive GDP growth, increased manufacturing jobs, improved household debt levels, and a strong US dollar. He specifically praised the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the CHIPS and Science Act, and initiatives promoting electric vehicle manufacturing as significant contributors to this economic success.
Winkler drew parallels between Biden and other historically unpopular presidents—Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Jimmy Carter—who, despite leaving office with low approval ratings, left substantial legacies. He cited Truman’s Marshall Plan, Johnson’s Civil Rights Act, and Carter’s economic regulations as examples.
The event also highlighted the ACJ’s investigative prowess. Chairman Sashi Kumar noted that ACJ students, mentored by Winkler in 2022, uncovered the overvaluation of Adani Enterprises shares three months before Hindenburg Research released its similar analysis. The event was attended by N. Ram, veteran journalist and Director of The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited, faculty members, and students.
