**TIRUNELVELI, January 23, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu inaugurated the state-level inter-school swimming competitions in Tirunelveli on Wednesday. The event, held at the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu’s swimming pool, saw participation from 1,407 girls and 2,063 boys competing across 47 categories over four days.
Mr. Appavu, along with Collector K.P. Karthikeyan, presented medals and certificates to the winners. The gold medalists will represent Tamil Nadu at the national-level competition. The Speaker highlighted a recent ₹10 lakh allocation by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for pool renovations, enabling the hosting of this state-level event.
Tirunelveli district swimmers have a strong track record, having previously won 48 gold, 36 silver, and 18 bronze medals at national-level competitions. Mr. Appavu also announced the forthcoming commencement of work on a new sports complex in Radhapuram, sanctioned by the Chief Minister. The event was attended by several local dignitaries including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
