**Beijing, January 22, 2025** – China’s Foreign Ministry has called for a strategic and long-term perspective in managing bilateral ties with India, echoing recent comments by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Following Jaishankar’s statement that India and China are working to disentangle their relationship from post-2020 border tensions and require a long-term vision, spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized the need to return relations to a “healthy and stable development.”

Guo stressed the importance of both nations viewing each other as development opportunities, not threats, and prioritizing cooperation over competition. He cited the agreements reached between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan, including the commitment to cooperation and adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

Guo further highlighted the shared benefits of a strong India-China relationship for the 2.8 billion citizens of both countries, as well as for regional stability and global prosperity. He advocated for true multilateralism and an equitable multipolar world order. Jaishankar, in a recent lecture, acknowledged past policy miscalculations in dealing with China and stressed the need for mutual trust and respect moving forward.
