**Hyderabad, January 22, 2025** – Telangana health officials, in a joint operation with Rachakonda Police, have uncovered an illegal kidney transplant ring operating out of Alakananda Hospital in Rangareddy district. The raid, prompted by an anonymous tip, revealed four individuals – two donors and two recipients, all from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu – undergoing procedures falsely presented as appendicitis surgeries.
The hospital, operating without proper authorization, allegedly involved doctors from neighboring states who were incentivized to participate. Rangareddy District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Venkateshwar Rao confirmed the arrests and stated that the patients have been transferred to Gandhi Hospital for care.
Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha condemned the illegal activity, vowing to prosecute all involved under the law. He has ordered intensified inspections of private hospitals by task force committees established under the Clinical Establishment Act and directed police to increase surveillance. A full investigation into Alakananda Hospital is underway.
