**Mumbai, India** – A Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad (30), has been arrested for stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence on January 16th. Shehzad, who illegally entered India seven months ago via Meghalaya, is accused of stabbing Khan six times during a botched robbery attempt.
According to Mumbai Police, Shehzad crossed the India-Bangladesh border and assumed the alias Bijoy Das. He spent several weeks in West Bengal, where he obtained a mobile SIM card using a local resident’s Aadhaar card before moving to Mumbai in search of work. He reportedly chose jobs that did not require documentation.
The attack, which occurred at Khan’s Bandra apartment, left the actor with serious injuries. Doctors removed a 2.5-inch piece of a broken knife from his spine, noting that a 2mm deeper penetration could have resulted in far more severe consequences. Khan was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
Khan’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, witnessed the attack and described the intruder as aggressive. A nurse caring for the couple’s son also reported that the attacker demanded ₹1 crore (approximately $121,000 USD).
Following a 70-hour manhunt involving multiple police teams and extensive CCTV footage analysis, Shehzad was apprehended in Thane and remanded into police custody for five days. The investigation is ongoing.
