**Jalgaon, Maharashtra:** Twelve people died and several others were injured in a horrific train accident near Pachora, Maharashtra, on [Date of incident], after a false fire alarm sparked panic among passengers. The incident occurred between Maheji and Pardhade stations, approximately 400 km from Mumbai.
According to police and railway officials, sparks from either a hot axle or brake failure on the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express triggered a false alarm of a fire around 5 pm. Passengers, believing the train was on fire, panicked and pulled the emergency chain, bringing the train to a halt. Several passengers then jumped onto the tracks, where they were struck by the oncoming Bengaluru-Delhi Karnataka Express.
Harrowing images from the scene depict bodies lying on the tracks and injured individuals covered in blood. Jalgaon’s Superintendent of Police, Maheswar Reddy, confirmed the death toll to NDTV. An accident relief train was dispatched from Bhusaval, and medical aid was provided to the injured.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, currently attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of each victim. He also stated the state government will cover all medical expenses for the injured. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences and stated he had spoken with the Chief Minister regarding the incident. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has instructed immediate attention to the injured and ordered an investigation. The cause of the sparks on the Pushpak Express is currently under investigation.
