**Nagpur, Maharashtra, January 21, 2025** – A one-and-a-half-year-old tigress was killed on Sunday after being struck by the Raxaul Express train on the Chanda Fort-Gondia railway line near Nagpur. The incident, which marks the first wildlife fatality on this route this year, occurred in the Sindewahi forest area.
According to forest officials, the sub-adult tigress suffered a fatal head injury and was thrown from the tracks after being hit by the speeding train. The loco pilot reported the incident to authorities at Alewahi railway station. A post-mortem confirmed internal hemorrhaging as the cause of death. The carcass was subsequently cremated.
The railway line passes through forested regions known for wildlife movement, and has been identified as a high-risk area. Investigations are underway to determine if the tigress was alone or with her mother and siblings at the time of the accident. The tigress was one of four cubs born to a resident tigress in the area.
