**NEW DELHI** – India is celebrating its 76th Republic Day with nationwide festivities, culminating in a grand parade in New Delhi. The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Golden India: Heritage and Development,” marking the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption.

The parade, to be attended by Indonesian President Joko Widodo as the chief guest, will feature 31 tableaux showcasing India’s diverse states, union territories, and central government ministries. Two tableaux are specifically dedicated to highlighting the 75th anniversary of the Constitution.

The Republic Day celebrations commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950, transforming India into a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic. The day is marked by flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades displaying India’s military might and cultural diversity, and the conferring of prestigious awards. The celebrations conclude with the “Beating Retreat” ceremony on January 29th.

A speech delivered for Republic Day celebrations emphasized the significance of the Constitution, acknowledging the contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and other framers. The speech also highlighted the progress India has made since independence while acknowledging ongoing challenges such as crime, corruption, poverty, and inequality. It urged citizens to unite and work towards overcoming these obstacles to fulfill the dreams of India’s freedom fighters. Schools across the nation are also actively participating in Republic Day celebrations with various competitions like essay writing, speech delivery, and poster making.
