**DETROIT, MI** – The Detroit Lions are set to lose offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who is expected to be named the next head coach of the Chicago Bears. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that a deal is being finalized.
Johnson, 38, was a highly sought-after coaching prospect, having turned down other opportunities last season to remain with the Lions. This year, however, he’s reportedly assembling a coaching staff in Chicago that includes former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the anticipated departures of both Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn in a Monday press conference. While expressing gratitude for their contributions, Campbell affirmed the team’s commitment to finding suitable replacements who align with the team’s philosophy and culture. He emphasized that the team will not rush the hiring process.
The Lions’ loss is a significant blow, but Campbell expressed confidence in the team’s ability to move forward and maintain their momentum. The search for new coordinators is underway.
