**Hyderabad, India (January 21, 2025)** — A 26-year-old Indian student, K. Ravi Teja, from Hyderabad, Telangana, was fatally shot in Washington, D.C., on January 20, 2024. Teja, who had traveled to the U.S. in 2022 to pursue a Master’s degree (MBA according to the North American Association of Indian Students), was reportedly killed instantly. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
The North American Association of Indian Students confirmed the tragedy on X (formerly Twitter), sparking outrage and criticism from the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). The NSUI, affiliated with the Congress party, blamed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for failing to protect Indian students abroad and criticized the Ministry of External Affairs’ silence on the matter. They accused the government of negligence, stating that the dreams of Indian students are turning into nightmares under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
