Tue Jan 21 02:23:49 UTC 2025: ## Trump Halts TikTok Ban in First Act as President

**Washington D.C.** – In one of his first official acts, President Donald Trump has issued a 75-day stay on the enforcement of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, effectively halting a ban on the popular video-sharing app TikTok. The law, passed last year and signed by President Biden, was set to prohibit the distribution and updating of TikTok in the United States starting January 19th, leading to a temporary shutdown of the app on Saturday.

Trump cited his surprising success in garnering the youth vote, attributing it to TikTok’s reach, as his reasoning for the reprieve. “I guess I have a warm spot for TikTok that I didn’t have originally, but I went on TikTok and I won young people,” he stated.

The ban, stemming from concerns about potential Chinese government surveillance and influence through data collection, caused widespread disruption for the app’s 170 million American users. Following the shutdown, TikTok service was restored Sunday, with the company crediting President Trump’s intervention.

The 75-day pause, according to the executive order, will allow the administration time to negotiate a solution that addresses national security concerns while preserving access to the platform. The Attorney General will provide guidance on implementing the pause, ensuring that companies like Apple, Google, and Oracle, who faced significant penalties for non-compliance, will not face legal repercussions for continuing to host and update TikTok during this period. The order aims to find a balance between national security and the interests of millions of American users.
