TIRUCHI, India (January 22, 2025) – Over 500 Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force officers have received specialized training in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection at the RPF Zonal Training Centre in Tiruchi, Southern Railway zone, since the program’s launch in 2023. The five-day course, held in batches of approximately 40 officers, covers theoretical and practical aspects of IED identification, handling suspected explosive substances, evacuation procedures, and crisis management.

The training includes hands-on exercises at Tiruchi and Thanjavur railway junctions, utilizing models of various explosives, including landmines and RDX. Instructors, trained at facilities like the National Security Guards in Haryana, emphasize the importance of safe procedures in bomb threat situations. The Tiruchi centre has been designated a centre of excellence for this crucial training, equipping field officers with updated skills to respond effectively to evolving security threats.
