Eighteen social entrepreneurs and innovators from 15 organizations across 13 countries, including India, were recognized for their transformative work. The awards, given in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, mark the beginning of a three-year program designed to support these individuals and their impact on an estimated 931 million lives.
This year’s awardees represent a diverse range of initiatives focused on social development, environmental sustainability, and equitable business models. Indian recipients include Akshay Saxena (Avanti Fellows), working to improve STEM education access, and Ved Arya (Buddha Institute and Responsible Coalition for Resilient Communities – RCRC), who spearheaded a coalition of 98 grassroots organizations responding to the COVID-19 pandemic’s disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities. Other Indian awardees from RCRC include Poonam Muttreja (Population Foundation of India) and Apoorva Oza (Aga Khan Foundation). Vineet Singal (CareMessage), founder of a US-based patient engagement platform for low-income populations, also received an award.
The WEF highlighted the awardees’ commitment to building a more sustainable and equitable world, emphasizing their contributions as leaders in their respective fields. The three-year program will provide ongoing support and connect them with a global network of nearly 500 social entrepreneurs.
