**Kolkata, India** – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed dissatisfaction with the life imprisonment sentence handed down to Sanjay Roy in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. She stated that if the case had been handled differently, she believed the death penalty would have been warranted. The CBI had originally sought the death penalty for Roy.
Separately, the Supreme Court granted significant relief to Rahul Gandhi in a case related to comments made against Amit Shah. The court issued a notice to the Jharkhand government.
In sporting news, India achieved a historic double victory at the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup, winning both the men’s and women’s titles.
