Mon Jan 20 06:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana to Distribute 40 Lakh New Ration Cards
**Hyderabad, January 20, 2025** – The Telangana government announced plans to distribute 40 lakh new ration cards, benefiting impoverished citizens, according to Minister for Major Irrigation, Uttam Kumar Reddy. The minister stated that existing ration cards will not be cancelled and that family members can be added as needed.
The distribution process will begin on January 26th and continue thereafter. Reddy emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that every eligible citizen receives a ration card, urging those without one to apply through gram sabhas (village assemblies). He described the initiative as a landmark achievement in the state’s history.
Reddy refuted opposition claims that existing cards would be revoked, stating that the previous BRS government had only issued 40,000 cards in the past decade. He further clarified that each beneficiary will receive six kilograms of fine rice under the new scheme, contrasting it with the lower-quality rice provided by the previous administration, which was often used for purposes other than consumption.
In other news, the minister announced the renaming of the Janpahad lift irrigation project to Jawahar Janpahad lift irrigation project.
