**Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, January 20, 2025** – Four individuals, including a village head, were arrested in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, for conducting Friday prayers in a makeshift shed without obtaining necessary permission, police reported on Saturday. The incident occurred while prohibitory orders were in effect due to upcoming festivities and Republic Day celebrations.
More than 20 people were reportedly participating in the prayers in Jam Sawant Shumali village. Police acted on a complaint filed by a member of the Hindu Jagran Sena, a local right-wing group, who also shared a drone video of the event on X (formerly Twitter).
Seven individuals, including the village head Arif, Aqeel Ahmed, Mohammad Shahid, and Chhote Ahmed, have been named in the case, with further legal action pending. The remaining three accused, Muzammil, Qadir Ahmed, and Mohammad Arif, are also facing charges. The Behadi station house officer, Sanjay Tomar, confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigation.
