**PUTTAPARTHI, January 19, 2025** – Sri Sathya Sai District Collector T.S. Chetan led a ceremony commemorating the birth anniversary of renowned Telugu poet and social reformer Yogi Vemana on Sunday. The event, organized by the District Tourism Department, took place at the Collectorate’s mini-conference hall.
Collector Chetan lauded Vemana as a courageous reformer whose poetry challenged societal norms contributing to human suffering. He highlighted the enduring relevance of Vemana’s 17th-century verses, praising their simple language and profound moral insights, accessible to all. The Collector specifically mentioned the iconic line, “Viswadabhirama Vinuravema,” as a testament to Vemana’s impact on Telugu speakers.
Chetan also provided biographical details, noting Vemana’s birthplace in Kondaveedu, Guntur district, and his final resting place (Jiva Samadhi) in Katarupalli within the Sri Sathya Sai district. He emphasized the continued reverence for Vemana, symbolized by the Akhanda Jyoti (eternal flame) at his Samadhi.
The Collector urged attendees to actively share Vemana’s teachings with younger generations, emphasizing their continued relevance in addressing modern societal issues. Joint Collector Abhishek Kumar, District Revenue Officer Vijaya Saradhi, and Tourism Department officials were also present at the ceremony.
