Sun Jan 19 02:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Osgood Perkins’ Gory Comedy “The Monkey” to Follow Up Horror Hit “Longlegs”

**LONDON, UK** – Director Osgood Perkins, known for his critically acclaimed horror film *Longlegs*, is set to shock audiences again with his new movie, *The Monkey*. This absurdist horror-comedy, loosely adapted from a Stephen King story, promises a drastically different tone from its predecessor. While *Longlegs* garnered praise for its chilling atmosphere and Nicolas Cage’s performance, *The Monkey* will lean into dark humor and over-the-top gore.

Perkins describes *The Monkey* as a “morbidly surreal horror comedy” featuring death-by-toy-ape scenarios and Rube Goldberg-esque death sequences. He emphasizes the film’s commitment to extreme visuals: “If you’re going for comedy then you’re going for extremes. When someone explodes in this movie – and a couple of people do – there’s a lot of mess.”

Despite the significant tonal shift, Perkins is confident about the film’s potential. He aims to offer a diverse range of cinematic experiences, stating, “I can’t think of another morbidly surreal horror comedy that’s also heartwarming and redemptive and stars a bona-fide movie hunk.”

*The Monkey* hits UK cinemas February 21st. For more details, read Empire’s full feature in their 28 Years Later issue, on sale January 16th.
