**New Delhi, January 18, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today distributed nearly 6.5 million Svamitva property cards across 10 states and two Union Territories, impacting over 22.4 million rural beneficiaries. This initiative aims to bolster economic activity and alleviate poverty by providing legal documentation of land ownership for the first time to millions of villagers.
The distribution ceremony, attended virtually by numerous chief ministers and ministers, saw simultaneous events in over 230 districts. Around 13 Union ministers participated in regional distribution ceremonies.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significance of property rights, referencing UN studies that link secure land titles to poverty reduction. He emphasized that the lack of documented property rights previously hindered economic progress, preventing access to loans and government schemes, particularly impacting Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities. He stated that the Svamitva scheme transforms “dead capital” into a valuable asset, allowing villagers to leverage their property for loans and business ventures.
The Svamitva scheme, along with the Bhu-Adhaar initiative, is expected to lay the foundation for future village development. The Prime Minister noted that many beneficiaries have already secured loans and started businesses thanks to the new property cards, offering financial security, especially to farmers.
