Sat Jan 18 20:12:28 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Police Halts Private Screening of AAP Documentary, Sparking Political Row

**NEW DELHI, January 19, 2025** – A private screening of a documentary about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was halted by Delhi Police on Saturday, sparking a major political clash between the AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal condemned the action as “dictatorial,” claiming the film exposed “secrets and conspiracies” behind the BJP’s arrests of AAP leaders.

The Delhi Police countered that the screening violated election guidelines, as no permission was sought through the required single-window system at the District Magistrate’s office, a standard procedure during elections. A senior officer stated that the police lacked the authority to grant or deny permission at this time.

Kejriwal maintained that no law prohibits private film screenings, emphasizing the event was a journalist preview, not a political rally. He asserted the film detailed the BJP’s allegedly illegal and unconstitutional actions leading to the imprisonment of AAP leaders. He described the police intervention as “hooliganism” and “dictatorship.”

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor responded by suggesting Kejriwal’s actions stemmed from anxieties over potential election defeat. Kapoor stated that a private screening wouldn’t prove Kejriwal’s innocence, urging him to pursue legal channels.

The incident highlights the escalating tensions between the AAP and the BJP-led central government, which oversees the Delhi Police, in the lead-up to the upcoming Assembly elections.
