**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh:** The ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is attracting millions of devotees, and among them is a unique story of transformation. Acharya Jaishankar, an IIT-BHU graduate who once enjoyed a successful career in the United States, has found solace and purpose in spirituality, highlighting the enduring power of Indian philosophy.
Jaishankar, who left behind a lucrative job and comfortable life, credits his spiritual awakening to Swami Dayanand Saraswati of the Arsha Vidya sect. His teachings in Vedanta, emphasizing self-realization and eternal happiness, profoundly impacted Jaishankar. He shared with IANS that despite material success in both India and the US, he found widespread unhappiness, concluding that true happiness stems from self-knowledge, a concept central to Vedanta. He emphasized the unique Indian approach to salvation, achieved through self-awareness rather than relying on an afterlife.
He explained that true, lasting happiness lies in understanding one’s infinite nature, as revealed in scriptures. This understanding, he says, is achieved through adherence to Dharma, the first Purusharth (goal) outlined in scriptures, without which Moksha (liberation) is impossible.
Addressing the recent controversy surrounding another IITian-turned-saint, Abhey Singh, Jaishankar urged a focus on present actions rather than past mistakes, likening the transformative power of Dharma to the purification of rivers regardless of their source.
Praising the government’s efforts in organizing the Maha Kumbh, Jaishankar encouraged attendees to view the event not just as tourism, but as an opportunity for self-purification and spiritual growth. He concluded by urging everyone to integrate the principles of Dharma and Vedanta into daily life for a more meaningful existence. The Maha Kumbh continues to serve as a powerful symbol of this spiritual awakening.
