**KOCHI, January 19, 2025** – Kochi Metro’s new fleet of electric feeder buses enjoyed a successful launch on Thursday, transporting 1,855 commuters across various routes. The 15 air-conditioned buses, purchased for approximately ₹15 crore, connect metro stations and Water Metro terminals, addressing first and last-mile connectivity issues.
The Aluva-international airport route saw the highest ridership, with 1,345 passengers using four of the buses. Two buses serving Kalamassery routes carried 510 passengers, generating a total revenue of ₹1.18 lakh on the first day of commercial operation. Fares range from ₹20 for journeys up to 5 km to ₹80 for the longer Aluva-airport route. Payment options include cash and digital transactions.
The buses, equipped with individual phone charging ports, operate on a schedule of 20-minute intervals during peak hours and 30-minute intervals during off-peak hours (6:45 a.m. to 11 p.m.) on the airport route. Additional routes, including a High Court-MG Road circular route, a Kadavanthra-KP Vallon Road-Panampilly Nagar circular route, and Kakkanad Water Metro terminal-Infopark routes, will be introduced in phases.
