The win follows a sell-out home opener last weekend, solidifying the team’s early success and the growing popularity of women’s professional volleyball in Indiana.
The Ignite displayed impressive teamwork and individual talent, with Leketor Member-Meneh leading the team with 17 kills and 11 digs. Azhani Tealer contributed 10 kills, while rookie Nina Cajic added 16 kills and two aces. The team’s strong performance was fueled by the passionate support of their fans, including Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, who was in attendance.
“I think we did a great job coming off the bounce from the last match,” said Ignite middle blocker Caroline Crawford. “We’re just trying to get better each day.”
The game’s atmosphere was electric, with fans chanting “Light it up!” throughout the match. Following the victory, the players participated in an autograph session, further connecting with their enthusiastic supporters, many of whom were young girls aspiring to play volleyball.
Erika Mimms, an Indianapolis resident whose daughters play volleyball, highlighted the inspiring impact the Ignite have on the local community: “It inspires (girls) so much…to also have a pro team is awesome. Now, they have a pro team and something to aspire for and to drive them in the sport that they love.”
The Ignite’s success is not only due to their on-court performance but also to the team’s strong local ties, with several players hailing from Indiana. This connection resonates with fans, creating a strong sense of community pride. Member-Meneh emphasized the importance of fan support: “Volleyball wouldn’t be volleyball if it wasn’t for our fans…They’re friends.”
With their 2-0 start, the Indy Ignite are tied for first place in the Pro Volleyball Federation, setting a high bar for the rest of the season and sparking excitement for the future of women’s professional volleyball in Indiana.
