**Mumbai, India** – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” opened to a lackluster response at the Indian box office, collecting a mere ₹4.82 crore net domestically over its first two days. While the film, a biographical drama on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, received a 3.5-star rating from trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who praised the performances and unbiased portrayal, the film’s slow pacing and abrupt editing were cited as drawbacks.
The film, featuring a star-studded cast including Milind Soman, Anupam Kher, and Shreyas Talpade, managed only ₹2.5 crore on its opening day (Friday) and a further ₹2.32 crore by Saturday evening. Globally, the film grossed ₹2.90 crore on its first day. Despite this underwhelming performance, it marks Ranaut’s highest Hindi opening since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film’s release wasn’t without controversy. Protests erupted in Amritsar, with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) demanding a ban on the movie. The film’s box office performance will be closely watched in the coming days to see if it can overcome its slow start.
